Our goals for December 2025

• 100% renewable energy for Allbirds "owned" and Allbirds "operated" buildings
• 100% renewable energy for the manufacturers of our end products
• Permanently ship more than 95% of goods by ship
• 100% of Allbirds customers wash their products on a cold wash cycle and 50% let their Allbirds clothes air dry

Why this is important to us

We define "energy" broadly to include both the electricity and fuels used in material processing, manufacturing, transportation and customer care. We believe that we are responsible for the environmental impact of our products, even if you have already taken them home with you. All in all, these categories comprise almost 3/4 of our carbon footprint. This means that energy is a part of everything we do as a company. And that means we not only need to stop using fossil fuels in our materials, but also as a source of energy. So whether it's working with suppliers on cleaner manufacturing processes, investing in low carbon shipping methods, helping customers take care of their products in a responsible way or sourcing renewable energy for our stores and offices, it all plays an important part in the journey to reduce our environmental impact.

What we do exactly

As we are still a relatively small company, we do not consume as much energy (at least compared to larger companies). And the energy we consume is spread all over the world. This makes it difficult for us to access markets for renewable energies. None of our production sites are owned by us, but we work with them to provide them with renewable energy locally. We are also working on shipping as much as possible by ship, which emits much less CO2 than shipping by air. And then there is the use by our customers. We are responsible for the environmental impact of the entire life cycle of our products. But unfortunately, we cannot influence what kind of energy customers use when they wash or dry the products they have bought from us. In short, we believe that we are responsible for all the environmental impacts our company causes and we want to do everything in our power to change behavior and reduce our carbon footprint. We are currently doing this by providing care instructions that have a lower environmental impact, by producing in regions that have cleaner energy grids and by developing energy efficiency measures with suppliers. Creating a responsible energy future requires global change, which must take place at a political level. That's why we want to work for progress here too.
